As technology pervades more and more industries, the demand for technical skills isn’t slowing down anytime soon and career options for technology majors are now virtually endless. Unfortunately, many technology majors aren’t adequately trained in the finer points of business, so they find themselves unprepared to leverage their high-demand skills into successful careers.
To prepare the next generation of developers, systems engineers, and IT consultants to also be successful business people, Loyola University New Orleans offers an online degree in Computer Information Systems with two distinct specializations – Entrepreneurship and Management Science. In addition to providing real-world internship experience, the program offers a rigorous and well-rounded core curriculum that includes fundamental CIS courses, such as:
Beyond core competencies, students can then specialize their degree based on their ideal career track. For the visionaries and mold-breakers, the Entrepreneurship track offers courses like Management & Organizational Behavior to prepare students to successfully launch and grow a business. For students that want to roll up their sleeves and dig into the operations side, the Management Science track offers courses like Business Statistics and Decision Support Systems.
With a specialized, interdisciplinary bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems from Loyola University New Orleans, there is no limit to your career potential. Graduates will be equipped with the core competencies of computing and information systems – from coding to database management, as well as specialized training in one of two highly-marketable areas – Entrepreneurship or Management Science.
If you see yourself launching the next big app or building your own ecommerce business, the Entrepreneurship specialization is tailor-made for you. In this track, your technical coursework is supplemented with foundational business courses in a number of fields, including finance, accounting, management, and marketing. Equipped with this broad set of skills and experience, graduates will be prepared to start their own successful software company – or any small business – and maintain that success for the long term.
The Management Science specialization prepares students to use information systems to solve complex business problems and make informed business decisions. This degree provides graduates with extensive instruction in business decision-making, statistics, operations, and project management. Whether your goal is to work at a startup, non-profit, traditional office, or for yourself, you will be prepared to plan, create, deploy, analyze, and improve the systems that businesses use.
